I am on the hunt for the best online metronomes. So far I have found a couple... which I think are okay. I have yet to find one I really love.
1) MetronomeBot.com
Has single beat metronomes, talking metronomes, different meter metronomes & subdividing metronomes. The robots are pretty cute. The one thing I didn't like is that each "beat" seems to be a clip and it just loops over and over. From what I can tell, the loop is arond 20 measures or so. The disadvantage is you can tell where each loop starts and ends and it will throw off your down beat... At least it did me. But if you need something that subdivides, where it actually gives you different tones for the beat and the subdivisions, you got it! I did have an issue using this site with the firefox browser. IE9 worked fine though.
2) WebMetronome.com
A not so pretty website, but has some features that the rest don't offer. You can not only select the tempo, but the number of beats per cycle and what beats you want emphasized. What I like about this is that if you are working on a specific passage, you can completely customize it to the passage. No easy subdividing though. You could certainly select a temo 4x as fast as what you are working on and have every 4th beat emphasized, but that seems like too much work to me. The clicks are a bit annoying as they sound like they were taken from a super old computer game like frogger.
3) BestMetronome.com
Several basic metronomes. The advanced, for some reason, wouldn't work in my browswer (using IE9 at the time). It does have a nice version that is a graphic of an old style pendulum-swing metronome and you can blow it up to a full screen access. I like this. Gives you a much more authentic feel, the click isn't annoying and it's very calming to see the pendulum swing back and forth.
4) MetronomeOnline.com
A basic metronome. It does give you an A! Nice! And you can color code it depending on your mood.

The only really cool thing about this one is that it has a "tapper" where you can use your mouse to click the speed you want. So this is a unique way to set the tempo. You don't have to use your brain to figure out the actual speed, you can just "tap" it out.
There are quite a few others out there in the net, but I didn't think they had any real redeeming qualities. I will keep searching until I find one I really love and keep this page updated.
